NEWSPAPER READING COMPETITION FOR CLASS VIII

"Newspaper reading is the best way to go beyond borders and explore the world.”

To inculcate the habit of reading newspapers among the students, Indian School Sohar organized a newspaper reading competition for class VIII on 15th November 2023. In which students participated enthusiastically showcasing their excellent skills of reading.

This competition was held to enhance the fact that newspaper reading is an integral part of a student's learning experience. It is a very useful tool for improving and enhancing the students' reading skills and knowledge of current affairs. Newspapers not only enhance our knowledge of general information but also improve our language skills and vocabulary.

The students were assessed based on pronunciation, articulation, expression, emphasis, style and delivery. Around 80 students from class VIII participated in the competition.  All the participants read the different sections of newspapers with confidence. The competition was judged by Ms. Mrudula Channa and Ms. Swati Khatav.

Principal Ms. Sanchita Verma has always emphasized the importance of reading. She encouraged the students to inculcate the everyday newspaper reading habits. Addressing the students, Principal also enlightened the students about various other ways newspapers could impact their lives. The most important being a career as a journalist.

At the end of the competition, the winners were given away the merit certificates by the Principal. Principal, Assistant Vice-Principal   congratulated and appreciated all the participants for their performance.  The Students who emerged as winners  were :

First position – Swaralakshmi Praful – VIII E

Second position – Advika Ray – VIII D

Third position – Joveena Susan – VIII D

The competition was coordinated by in-charges Ms. Arti Bokil and Ms. Wafa. The competition has not only helped inculcate a new hobby but also look at the newspaper reading with an interesting outlook.
