Indian School Sohar hosted its Academic Proficiency for VI - XII and Long & Meritorious Service Award Distribution Ceremony in the school auditorium on Saturday, February 17th, 2024. This occasion highlighted the diligent contributions of students and faculty members, underscoring their dedication to academic excellence and service.
Mr. Saeed Bin Mohammed Al Raisi, Supervisor, International Schools, General Directorate of Education, North Al Batinah Governorate, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Eminent dignitaries, Mr. Abraham George, President, School Managing Committee, Mr. Ajay Damani, Treasurer, School Managing Committee, were also present on the auspicious occasion to motivate the students.
The event commenced with a display of respect for both Oman and India through the Royal Anthem of Oman and the National Anthem of India, setting a solemn tone for the event.
Vice Principal Mr. Yashvir Singh, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, followed by a melodious welcome song by the school choir reflecting the essence of 'Atithi Devo Bhava' embracing cultural diversity.
Principal Ms. Sanchita Verma's Annual Report provided insights into the school's achievements and activities of the academic year.
The captivating dance drama "Shiksha Ka Itihas," depicting India's educational journey from ancient traditions to the modern era shaped by the National Education Policy (NEP) was noteworthy.
Addressing the audience, Mr. Abraham George, President of the School Managing Committee, emphasized the values of hard work and perseverance, inspiring students, and educators.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of academic awards, including gold coins, trophies, and certificates, honouring Oman toppers, school and class achievers, and students showing exceptional progress in Class X & XII in comparison to Class IX & XI respectively. Additionally, accolades were bestowed upon inter-school and national level sports achievers. Recognizing the dedication of the faculty for their long-standing service of 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 glorious years, tokens of appreciation were presented to them. The school honoured the remarkable achievements of its esteemed faculty members. Notable recipients of special awards for teachers were honoured, including Ms. Infancy Jermila Rani TGT, Mathematics faculty, securing the Third position in the Teaching-Learning Material Competition. Ms. Francisca Menezes, PGT, English, honoured with the First Place at the School Level Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Alka Singh, Supervisor for Classes III to V, was bestowed with the esteemed Meritorious Achievement Award in acknowledgment of her remarkable feat: obtaining a Ph.D. in Zoology.
Ms. Indira Sukumaran's contribution extends beyond her tenure of 15 years at ISS, as she authored a book titled "Vedic Mathematics - A Handbook," which has proven immensely beneficial for both teachers and students, fostering logical thinking and confidence in mathematics. Her outstanding efforts were further acknowledged with the Navin Asher-Kazi Award for Excellence in Teaching, where she secured First Place in the Senior School category.
Mr. Yashvir Singh, the Vice Principal, was lauded for his remarkable 30-year journey of service to the institution. He has significantly contributed to the school’s success as the lyricist of the School Anthem and as the Center Superintendent for CBSE Board Examinations for four consecutive years. Moreover, Mr. Singh's creative prowess extends beyond academia, as he has published two books of Hindi poetry, "Abhinav Surabit Kaliyan" and "Antarman Ki Uddan," showcasing his depth of expression and literary talent.
Ms. Sanchita Verma, the Principal, was honoured for her exemplary leadership at Indian School Sohar. She has been recognized and celebrated for her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to academic excellence. In a moment of pride, the Principal was honoured by the Council of CBSE Gulf Sahodaya for her outstanding commitment, dedication, and distinguished service as the navigator of the institution. Her strategic academic planning led to outstanding results in the Oman Chapter of the Class XII CBSE Board Examination in March 2023, earning accolades during the CBSE Gulf Sahodaya Principals’ Conference in Colombo.
Furthermore, her leadership was recognized on an international platform as she was bestowed with THE BEST ZONAL PRINCIPAL AWARD by the Science Olympiad Foundation for the year 2022-23. Under her guidance, Indian School Sohar has participated in various inter-school mega events and competitions, securing numerous awards. Her motivation and exceptional contributions towards Science Technology and Innovation (STAI), Indian School Talent Fest (ISTF), and AUCITY have been acknowledged with trophies and appreciation.
Additionally, the Principal received commendation from GESS-Dubai, Global Education Supplies & Solutions, for showcasing innovative educational tools, technologies, and solutions, further highlighting her dedication to fostering a culture of innovation in education.
The accolades bestowed upon the Principal reflect not only her individual excellence but also the collective achievements of Indian School Sohar under her visionary leadership.
A wave of patriotic spirit engulfed the audience with the stirring dance presentation of 'Mera Bharat Mahan’ as the grand finale. The performance exalted the magnificence of India, showcasing its rich diversity and unity in a mesmerizing display of cultural fervour.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by the Asst. Vice Principal, Ms. Indira Sukumaran. The programme concluded with a sense of pride and celebration, highlighting the school’s commitment to academic excellence and nurturing talent. It underscored its commitment to recognizing and celebrating the outstanding contributions of its students and faculty members, inspiring excellence, and innovation within the school community.
