Indian School Sohar, joined the CBSE special campaign 3.0 under the Swachhta Abhiyan and reiterated its resolve to promote cleanliness among students and the community by flagging off a week-long campaign from 22nd Oct.’ 2023 to 26th Oct.’2023. Students of Classes III – V and Classes VI - VIII were called forward to be the torch bearers of this mission.
The principal, Ms Sanchita Verma addressed the students and sensitized them towards the need to maintain high standards of cleanliness in their immediate surroundings by clearing up their classrooms. Acquainting the students with the CBSE initiative of ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’, she urged them to not shy away from cleaning up and do it as a voluntary service to the community. The need to stay clean in mind, body and habits was further emphasized by the Vice Principal, Mr Yashvir Singh, Assistant Vice Principal, Ms Indira Sukumaran and Supervisor Ms Alka Singh.
Students were made familiar with the Japanese art of O-soji and inspired to make cleanliness a part of their daily routine, in school as well as at home. Proper hand wash techniques to maintain good hygiene were demonstrated by the students and the need to continue this habit was stressed upon. Poster making and slogan writing activities were also conducted for the students during their Art classes to spread the message and reinforce the thought among the school fraternity.
The Samarpan Club, the embodiment of community service in the school, also carried out a campus cleanup drive on 26th October 2023 with active involvement of students and teachers to spread the message of cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene in the society. The students of Classes III- V and VI – VIII, equipped with garbage bags and hand gloves, were divided into their respective teams and assigned specific areas to clean, including classrooms, corridors, and playgrounds.
The Swachhta Hi Sewa cleanliness drive not only contributed to a cleaner and healthier environment but also fostered a sense of community service and responsibility. The week long programme, co-ordinated by Ms. Navjot Kaur Saini and Ms. Saima Ahmad, motivated the students to spread awareness in the community at large and to carry forward this attitude as a habit.
