Indian School Sohar conducted a two-day Professional Development Programme for its teachers on 29th and 30th July 2024, focusing on contemporary educational strategies and the enhancement of English language teaching skills.
Principal Mrs. Sanchita Verma welcomed the attendees with an inspiring speech that underscored the importance of continuous training and development for educators. She highlighted how such initiatives contribute to maintaining high educational standards and ensuring the school's commitment to excellence.
Ms. Smitha Matai, with over 25 years in the education sector was the resource person. Currently serving as Central Manager at Orient BlackSwan Pvt. Ltd based at Mumbai. Smitha has held various roles including entrepreneurial ventures, teaching, curriculum development, and educational consultancy. She has extensive experience in conducting teacher training workshops, curriculum planning, and educational publications.
The resource person led insightful sessions over the two days.

Synergy for Advancement: NEP, HPC, and SAFAL
The session began with a comprehensive exploration of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, covering its vision, aims, major changes, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), pedagogy, and assessment
Focus shifted to the Holistic Progress Card (HPC) and SAFAL, discussing their salient features, developmental goals, self-assessment, peer assessment, parent feedback, and practice papers.

English Language Teaching
Teachers engaged in sessions covering a list of language skills, including listening, speaking, and reading and writing.
The session then moved to grammar, and punctuation, emphasizing effective strategies for teaching these critical aspects of the English language.
The programme was a resounding success, with teachers expressing their appreciation for the practical insights and valuable tools they gained, which will undoubtedly enhance their teaching methods and classroom experiences.
