“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”

-Benjamin Franklin

The interdisciplinary Subject Enrichment Activities (SEAs) conducted for classes VI-VIII, focused on active participation by the students to encourage hands on learning. Themes for this year included Food on Plate, Water and Farm to Table. These activities not only imparted knowledge but also instilled practical skills and fostered a profound connection within the subjects as well as a renewed love for learning among the students. Here's a recap of the activities:

Grade VI - Food on Plate:

  • The sixth-grade students organized impressive exhibits featuring nutritious food, highlighting the importance of a healthy diet.
  • Plating hand crafted food items aimed to enhance visual appeal, training them to plan a wholesome meal, promoting good health.
  • They delved into the drawbacks of fast food consumption and explored methods to reduce food wastage, promoting responsible consumption.
  • Calculating the calorific value of various food items to identify healthier options and develop mindful eating habits.
  • Naming food items and ingredients in multiple languages added a cultural dimension to the activity, promoting diversity and language skills.
  • The students identified largest producing states of any three ingredients from their plate, giving them a greater understanding of different crops and cuisines in India.

Grade VII – Water:

  • Seventh-grade students prepared thoughtful comic strips depicting the journey of waste water in an interesting way.
  • Students engaged in storytelling, based on the comic strip suggesting ways to manage waste water disposal in innovative ways.
  • They researched about urban sources of water pollution and depicted them along with the water resource through the creative use of material like thread, buttons, cotton etc.
  • Representation of data pertaining to household usage of water from five different homes using a double bar graph sensitized them towards identification and reduction of wasteful habits.
  • Slogans for water conservation, tips to prevent water pollution and names of water sources were shared in different languages enhancing their linguistic proficiency.

Grade VIII – Farm to Table:

  • Students in grade VIII explored various methods to showcase the agricultural practices and the journey of food from the fields to our tables, reinforcing the message, ‘Not a grain down the drain’.
  • Students, equipped with elaborate props and models, engaged in role play as characters ranging from farmers to scientists and highlighted sustainable farming practices.
  • Linguistic proficiency was enhanced by means of poetry recitation and dialogue writing about the various crops grown in India and the seasonal variations associated with them.
  • Group wise construction of pie charts using individually collected data on crop production from five different states enabled them to make a comparative study about agricultural output in the country.
  • Representing the distribution of soil types on an outline map, enabled them to correlate factors like climate and irrigation with the various cropping patterns throughout India.

The conduction of SEA provided an opportunity for bag less days in accordance with the NEP. The support and appreciation extended by the Principal, Vice Principal, and Asst. Vice Principal, underscored the significance of these activities in the school curriculum.

These SEAs went beyond mere academic exercises, functioning as strategic learning methods that fostered hands-on, holistic learning experiences. They helped students establish a deeper connection with their subjects, encouraged active participation, and played a crucial role in their overall academic development. Through these initiatives, students gained valuable knowledge and skills that will not only enhance their current academic journey but also equip them for success in the future.
