ONAM: A FESTIVAL OF UNITY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

On September 12, 2024, Indian School Sohar celebrated the joyous festival of Onam with a vibrant assembly that highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. The event took place in the Recreation Hall, where a special assembly was organized by students to mark this auspicious occasion.

The event commenced with a soulful Prayer Song, setting a serene atmosphere and inviting blessings for joy and harmony. Following this, the ceremonial Lighting of the Lamp was performed by the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, along with the Vice-Principal, Mr. Yashvir Singh, and the Asst. Vice-Principal, Ms. Indira Sukumaran, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the arrival of wisdom. The highlight of the event was the entry of Maveli, a symbolic figure associated with Onam, and his heartfelt message.

The celebration was marked by a series of captivating cultural performances. The Welcome Dance energized the assembly, showcasing the beauty of traditional Kerala dance forms, followed by an inspirational address by the Principal emphasizing the importance of cultural festivals in strengthening community bonds. The assembly also featured an informative presentation on Onam traditions, highlighting the joyous feast of Onasadhya and the folk dances that characterize the festival. The audience was immersed in the scenes depicting Vallam Kali, the traditional boat race, and the exhilarating tiger dance, both integral parts of Onam festivities. This visual journey offered a glimpse into Kerala's rich cultural heritage.

Younger students dazzled the audience with an energetic Folk Dance, Puli Kali etc. bringing the spirit of the festival to life. In keeping with the theme, a melodious Onam Song was performed, further enriching the cultural experience, followed by the graceful Thiruvathira dance, which highlighted feminine grace and devotion. The assembly culminated in a lively Fusion Dance, bringing together diverse styles and showcasing the collective talent of the participants, creating a vivacious celebration of unity and joy. The Asst. Vice-Principal delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the performers and organizers, setting a positive tone for future events.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony honored the winners of various competitions, celebrating their achievements. Concluding with the National Anthem, the event was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression of unity and cultural pride.
