The Department of Social Science, Indian School Sohar, organized the Model United Nations Assembly 2024 on 4th November' 24, offering a platform to showcase the diplomatic and leadership skills of students. It was aimed at encouraging delegates to work together and look beyond their differences to figure out feasible solutions to the challenges which the world faces today.
Mr. Rajasekaran, HoD, Department of Social Science, gave a comprehensive overview of the program. He spoke about the purpose of conducting MUN as an important strategy of youth development, their training in international diplomacy and as an opportunity to participate in global affairs. Student delegates representing 20 different countries spoke on issues of global concern and explored the various ways to achieve the UN agenda of SDGs 2030. The formal ambience created on the stage added to the impact on the audience.
The Assistant Vice Principal, Ms. Indira Sukumaran, addressed the students and referred to the MUN as an ideal stepping stone into the global arena. Highlighting the need for public speaking, she appreciated the participants and encouraged the students to take up such opportunities for improving their communication skills and global acumen. Reflecting on the UN theme for the year, ‘Leaving no one behind’, she encouraged the students to work together towards peace and human dignity.
Vice Principal, Mr. Yashvir Singh, then distributed the certificates of participation, congratulating the participants on remarkable presentation. The Best Presenters, judged on the basis of their research, delivery and confidence were announced and the students who emerged as winners in the tough competition are:
First Position - Zara Zabil (X E)
Second Position - Lamha Saleem (IX E)
Third Position - Advika Ray (IX A)
It was an exciting, enriching, and rewarding experience which helped to imbibe the core values of leadership and responsibility in the delegates and inspired the audience to evolve as global citizens.
