On November 7, 2024, Indian School Sohar held an insightful session on consumer rights, led by Mr. Ali Saeed Obaid Al Kaabi, Head of the Legal Affairs Department of the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in the North Al Batinah Governorate. The session aimed to raise awareness among students about their rights as consumers, equipping them with essential knowledge to make informed decisions in the marketplace. The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, graciously extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guest and eloquently conveyed the speaker's insightful ideas in English.

Mr. Ali Saeed Obaid Al Kaabi explained that the law guarantees the rights of consumers, including the right to information, the right to free choice of goods and services, the right to guaranteed quality and fair pricing, the right to health and safety during the normal use of goods and services, the right to fair compensation for damages incurred through the normal use of goods and services etc.

He also emphasized regarding consumers’ right to accurate product information, including specifications, production and expiry dates, and pricing. The law mandates transparency, prohibits misleading claims, ensures compliance with health and safety standards, and entitles consumers to an Arabic or English invoice with key product or service details, along with a provider guarantee for all purchases. He also provided the contact numbers 80079009 and 80077997 for reporting defective products or addressing customer dissatisfaction.

The interactive session demonstrated that the students gained a deep understanding and appreciated the valuable insights shared by the speaker, who reiterated that these rights are designed to safeguard consumers and ensure that they are treated fairly, with a focus on transparency, choice, and quality. The principal highlighted the importance of making thoughtful purchasing decisions instead of acting on impulse.
