ADOLESCENCE EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Adolescence Education Programme was organized by Sanjeevani, the Health and Wellness Club of Indian School Sohar, for the students of Classes VII and VIII on 28th April 2024, in cooperation with Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Sohar.

The Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) is an important initiative that aims to empower young people with accurate and age-appropriate relevant information, promote healthy attitudes and develop skills to enable them to respond to real life situations in positive and responsible ways.

Guests for the day, Dr. Sabiha Akbar and Dr. Sanju Joy were welcomed by the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma. Vice-Principal, Mr. Yashvir Singh and Assistant Vice-Principal, Ms. Indira Sukumaran, advised the students to listen attentively and interact with the doctors.

The girls were addressed by Dr. Sabiha Akbar, Gynaecologist and the boys were addressed by Dr. Sanju Joy, Adolescent and Child Physician, in separate sessions, about the Challenges of Puberty and Coping with the Pressures of adolescence. Through power point presentations and discussion, various implications of growth phase on the students’ lives were discussed. The physical and emotional development during the adolescence period was explained. Importance of healthy food, fitness and good hygiene were emphasized. Queries and doubts were discussed in the end.

Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma addressed the students and highlighted the importance of this crucial growth phase. She appreciated the doctors for enlightening the students and emphasized that the students need to incorporate the newly gained knowledge into their personal lives. Assistant Vice-Principal, Ms. Indira Sukumaran, joined her in extending gratitude to the doctors for their valuable contribution and patience in handling the queries of the students.
