INDUSTRIAL VISIT CONDUCTED BY COMMERCE DEPARTMENT

On May 28, 2024, a group of 37 students and 4 teaching faculty from the Department of Commerce, Indian School Sohar visited Taghleef Industries, a leading producer of packaging materials, at the Sohar Industrial zone. The visit was part of the curriculum to provide practical exposure and insight into the real-world applications of theoretical concepts learned in class.

The visit was coordinated by Ms. Smitha Mishra, Mr. Santhosh Kumar and facilitated by the company's HR, R & D and Safety Department.

Before reaching Tagleef Industries, the team arrived at Madayn (Industrial Facilitation Centre) at 9:30 AM and were warmly welcomed by Mr. Saeed Al Darmaki, who  gave a detailed information about the working of Madayn and the services provided by the centre in the industrial development and entrepreneurship built up in Sohar.

At Taghleef Industries the students were welcome by Mr. Abhijith Ghosh, Head of R & D, HR, and Mr. Sulaiman Al-Abdulsalam, Manager of Health & Safety, Environment, and Administration. Ms. Amrita Nair, the R & D assistant, gave a detailed presentation on:

  • Overview of the company's product range and major clients.
  • Description of the manufacturing processes  and materials used.
  • Insights into the company's R&D efforts and future plans for product development.
  • Explanation of the quality assurance processes and certifications held by the company.
  • Overview of the manufacturing principles adopted and their impact on efficiency and zero waste.

This was followed by an interactive session with  Mr. Kumar, General Manager, Taghleef Industries, who answered the questions and clarified the doubts of students regarding career opportunities, industry trends and technical challenges faced by the company.

Plant Tour

The highlight of the visit was the guided tour of the manufacturing facility, where the students observed the raw material storage and handling, Production Line and the integration of automated systems, conveyors, heating and cooling sections, elongation section, etc.  Quality Control with various testing and inspection techniques, which included both manual inspections and automated testing and packaging and shipping.

The industrial visit to Taghleef Industries was an enlightening experience as it provided a practical understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control and the application of management principles. The insights gained will be invaluable for the academic and professional pursuits.
