"Our Land, Our Future. We are Generation Restoration."

Indian School Sohar celebrated World Environment Day with a vibrant and enlightening morning assembly on 5th June 2024. The event began with a prayer song, "Showers of Blessing," invoking blessings and setting a serene tone for the day.

The assembly was conducted by Class XI A, which embodied the spirit of nature, echoing the words of William Wordsworth, "Nature never did betray the heart that loved her.”

The assembly comprised an inspiring thought, emphasizing the importance of cherishing and protecting our natural environment. This was followed by NEWS, keeping everyone informed about current events. A powerful speech was delivered, that motivated the audience to take concrete actions to make our planet a better place. The words resonated deeply, encouraging everyone to contribute to environmental conservation. A brief PowerPoint was presented on the significance of World Environment Day, highlighting the importance of saving resources to protect Mother Earth and ensuring a sustainable future for human life. Emphasis was laid on the theme for 2024, "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”.

Hand-made badges, prepared by Gayana of XI A, were presented to the Principal, Vice-Principal,  Assistant Vice-Principal and School Captains, which symbolized a commitment to fostering sustainability within the school community.

The Green Gyan Eco Club organized a 'Waste Paper Management Campaign', focusing on raising awareness among the staff about the importance of proper waste paper disposal and promoting sustainable practices. As part of this initiative, beautiful "Good on One Side" (GOOS) boxes were prepared and labeled by Eco Club volunteers from Classes III to V, who presented these boxes to the Principal, Vice Principal, and Assistant Vice Principal.

The prize distribution ceremony for the Slow Cycling Race, held on World Bicycle Day, 3rd June 2024, took place during the assembly. The race encouraged students to embrace cycling as a sustainable mode of transport. The winners were awarded trophies by the Principal.

The Principal addressed the assembly with an inspiring talk, urging students to make a daily effort to conserve and sustain resources. She emphasized that environmental stewardship should be practiced every day, not just on World Environment Day. She highlighted the theme for 2024, "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience". She also noted that this year’s Environment Day is being hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The assembly ended the school captains escorting the Principal, Vice Principal, and Assistant Vice Principal to the school reception for the tree-planting event. The dignitaries along with the Omani staff and student volunteers planted saplings in pots, symbolizing their commitment to a greener future.

The morning assembly on World Environment Day at Indian School Sohar was a memorable event that successfully raised awareness about environmental issues and motivated the school community to take positive actions for the planet.
