MENTAL MATH COMPETITION FOR CLASSES I & II (2024-2025)

As the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu wisely stated “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” In this spirit, Indian School Sohar has taken a significant step towards fostering a competitive Math environment for young learners. The school recently conducted a Mental Math Competition with an aim to help children develop an interest in Mathematics through practice and engagement.

The Mental Math Competition was conducted on the 16th and 17th of February, 2025 for Classes I & II respectively. This event assessed the Mathematical skills of the little geniuses. A preliminary written selection round was held on February 9th 2025, from which 27 students from Class I and 26 students from Class II were selected to advance to the oral round. The oral round not only enhanced the students’ thinking and calculation skills but also facilitated their understanding of Mental Math concepts.

Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, and Assistant Vice-Principal, Ms. Indira Sukumaran addressed and encouraged the participants with their inspiring words. Overall, the competition provided an opportunity for the students to recognize their capabilities and motivated them to expand their knowledge. It significantly increased their interest in Mathematics while simultaneously building their confidence and mental agility. The coordinators for Mental Math Competition were Ms. Subbulakshmi and Ms. Santhi Ayyappan for Class I and II respectively.

Class I

First Position − Aatish Sanil (I I)

Second Position − Tarun Senthil Kumaran (I F)

Third Position − Almeera Kalim Shaikh (I A) and Saimithran Premkumar (I F)

 

Class II

First Position − Ishaan Sunil (II F)

Second Position − Gautham Krishn V  Lolugu (I I)

Third Position − Agarwin Senthilkumaran (II G) and Shivansh Rakesh (II G)
