‘ECO INITIATIVES AT INDIAN SCHOOL SOHAR’- LEADING THE WAY IN ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

On November 6, 2024, Sohar University hosted the closing ceremony on the ‘Plastic Reduction Project’ of the Environmental Council in North Al Batinah Governorate, marking the conclusion of a year dedicated to various environmental activities and initiatives. The event brought together a diverse audience, including government officials, environmental experts, corporate partners, representatives from educational institutions, and enthusiastic students.

Students from Indian School Sohar, Samanvi Sathyajith and Azba M.Rangunwala made a significant impact by displaying a Power Point presentation in English and Arabic on sustainable projects implemented at the school. The presentation highlighted the achievements including, a notable decrease in plastic waste and other sustainable practices implemented on the school premises.

In addition, there was a cultural dance performance on the song ‘Tick Tick Plastic’ by the students of Indian School Sohar , effectively conveying important messages about sustainability and environmental responsibility, which captivated the audience.

The program's highlight was a speech and poem by Satakshi Mehta, the 'No Plastic' Ambassador of Indian School Sohar. Her powerful recitation emphasized the importance of reducing plastic waste, receiving enthusiastic applause and praise from guests, including representatives of the Environmental Council and Sohar University.

The event concluded with the recognition of the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma for her leadership in advancing sustainability at the school. She was honoured with a memento in appreciation of her efforts in initiating projects like the ‘Plastic Reduction Campaign’ and instilling a culture of environmental responsibility among students and staff.

The Principal praised the team for their hard work and dedication. She commended Mr. Kamal P. Gurung, Head of the Health and Physical Education Department, and Ms. Saima Ahmad, Club Coordinator, for their guidance and mentorship and acknowledged the entire team's effort in making the event a success.
