Indian School Sohar celebrated its 37th Annual Day in a spectacular manner with a vibrant array of cultural programs on the 17th of November, 2024. H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Ali Al Busaidi, the Wali of Sohar, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Other special invitees included Mr. Saed Bin Mohammed Al-Raisi from the Ministry of Education, representatives from Bank Muscat, and principals from other Indian schools. The presence of Abraham George, President of the School Managing Committee (SMC), Mr. Ajay Damani, Treasurer of SMC, and Dr Ragini Vaishnav, Member of the School Managing Committee, enthused the staff and students.
Mr. Abraham George, the President of SMC, presented his reflections and extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and the audience. The Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma, through the "Glimpses," traced the purposeful and steady strides and momentous progress made during the last academic session. She highlighted the milestones achieved during the session and the significant progress the school is making in all fields by leaps and bounds. Mrs. Verma also commented on the concentrated and persistent endeavours of the school to achieve higher goals in co-curricular and co-scholastic areas.
A highlight of the event was the array of cultural programs that celebrated the essence of our rich cultural diversity and heritage. The event began with a captivating "Prayer Dance, Bhoomi Mangalam," followed by "First Step to School," which evoked nostalgia by recalling the magical moment of starting school for the first time."Awake And Be Aware!", conceived by the principal, was an innovative interpretation of "Sleeping Beauty," featuring a wise grandmother in place of the traditional prince, challenging age-old gender biases, and imparting valuable lessons on wisdom and strength.
"Echoes of the Hills" by the junior choir beautifully portrayed the enchanting landscapes and cultural richness of Uttarakhand, immersing spectators in its scenic charm. The "Folk Ballad" by the senior choir resonated deeply with the audience, illustrating the life of a city tree. The "Garba Glimmer" reflected the ecstatic movements of traditional dance forms of Gujarat. "Melodies of Movement" mesmerized the audience with intricate hand movements and special props, adding a unique artistic flair. The invigorating energy of the "Hip Hop Hustle," highlighted by powerful beats, offered a contemporary twist to the program. Another highlight of the event was "Eternal Grace," an enchanting Kathak dance. It combined graceful footwork and expressive gestures, set to a medley of Arabian and Indian music, leaving the audience spellbound.
The program rose to a final crescendo with "Nache Mayuri," depicting the tender relationship between a mother peacock and her chick, encapsulating the essence of parental care and love. The actual rain on stage enchanted the audience, creating a magical atmosphere as peacocks danced gracefully, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
The Annual Prize Distribution function was a moment of pride and honor for all winners and achievers. Meritorious students from Std. VI to XII were awarded during the ceremony. Subject toppers of Std. X and XII were honored with gold coins. Additionally, teaching and non-teaching staff with 10 and 15 years of dedicated service were honored, including Mrs. Thoraya Abdulla, Mr. Mohammed Ilyas, and Ms. Maria Leena Sophia. Ms. Selvi Malaiyathevar was awarded for her research work, which ranked in the top three at the Educational Conclave organized by Indian School Salalah, and Mrs. Alpa Thakkar received the School Level Award of Excellence.
Above all, the Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma, was honoured for receiving numerous awards and recognitions. These include the 10th India Middle East Education Award for the Best School for Academic Excellence in 2024, the Best International Zonal Principal Award from SOF, the Global Educator Award for promoting Academic Excellence from the International Olympiad Foundation, and an award from the Ministry of Education for promoting Eco Initiatives.
The Chief Guest, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Ali Al Busaidi, praised the variety program that showcased Indian culture and heritage. The hosts of the event, Arnav Naroth Santhosh, Anugya Mandal, Viyan Kumar, and Aiswarya Saji, guided the audience seamlessly from one captivating performance to the next. The Cultural Captain, Parth Gupta, proposed the vote of thanks. The guests and dignitaries were full of praise for the show and congratulated the school. The President of the SMC, Mr. Abraham George, and other members of the SMC profusely appreciated the relentless efforts of the ISS team. The gaiety and enthusiasm of the whole show were infectious, attracting loud rounds of applause.
