On December 12, 2024, Indian School Sohar proudly hosted its 29th Annual Sports Day at the Sohar Sports Stadium, continuing its cherished tradition of honouring athleticism, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Saif bin Hareb bin Masoud Al Ghafri, Assistant Director General for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the General Directorate of Education, North Al Batinah Governorate, as the Chief Guest and Mr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Muqbali, General Secretary of the School Sports Committee, at the General Directorate of Education, North Al Batinah Governorate, as the Guest of Honour. Special invitees included Mr. Khamis bin Mubarak Al Manai, Assistant Director for Human Resources Development, Department of Administrative Affairs, and Mr. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Quraini, Director of the Private Schools Department and Delegate to the Financial Affairs Department at the General Directorate of Education, North Al Batinah Governorate. The gathering was further enhanced by members of the School Managing Committee, including the Convenor, Mr. Lalit Asher, Treasurer, Mr. Ajay Damani, and Member, Mr. Amit Shah.
The celebration commenced with a vibrant Guard of Honour, featuring an inspiring performance by the Lezim troupe, captivating the audience and setting a lively tone for the evening. Following this, the members of the School Council and House Captains led an impressive March Past, accompanied by the lively music. The synchronous movements and the sound of marching feet were met with enthusiastic applause from the spectators as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour received the salute, with students proudly marching with their respective House flags and placards, symbolizing unity and spirit.
The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, delivered an encouraging welcome address that infused the crowd with motivation and enthusiasm. In her speech, she presented the annual sports report, highlighting numerous achievements throughout the year. A particularly significant moment was the Torch Relay, which embodied the spirit of victory and aspiration. The torch was carried by notable young athletes, including Spandana Surepally, the Gold Medalist in the Under-17 Girls category at the CBSE Oman Cluster Chess Competition; Sarisha Gupta, a talented basketball player who led our school's Under-17 Girls Basketball Team at the CBSE National Basketball Tournament; Alan K. Biju, the Gold Medalist in Triple Jump in the Under-19 Boys category; and P. V. Jithessh, the Gold Medalist at the CBSE Oman Cluster Badminton Tournament.
The Chief Guest officially declared the meet OPEN by releasing balloons and pigeons into the sky, following a solemn oath-taking ceremony led by the Sports Captain, Laksh Piladi, reinforcing the values of fair play and dedication. The school mascots, Oryx and Shera, added delightful charm to the event, uplifting the spirits of both participants and spectators.
An array of exhilarating events unfolded throughout the evening, showcasing the talents of students from various grades. Enjoyable races, dances and drills included the Cone Balance Race, Chair Drill, Crab Race, Double Ducks Race, Chair Flag Relay Race, Sports Theme Dance, Butterfly Race, Ball Race, Ice Cream Race, Sack Race, Plate Drill, Melodies of Movement and P.T. Drill, along with the highlight of the evening, the Skating Display, featuring the synchronized movements and coordination of the skaters. Adding an engaging twist, parents participated in the 75m Running Race, rekindling the spirit of competition.
The day culminated in a grand Prize Distribution ceremony, where medals, shields, and trophies were awarded to outstanding performers across a range of competitions. The achievements of the sports stars in the thrilling CBSE Oman Cluster Games and Sports Competition 2024-25 were honoured with gold medals. The overall championship witnessed intense competition, with the Green House claiming victory, while the Red House secured a close second place. The Red House also triumphed in the March Past event, with the Blue House earning the Runner-Up position, showcasing their remarkable discipline and coordination.
Engaging commentary throughout the event was provided by the student compere team—Parth Zala, Lamha Saleem, Aagney J.V., and Agnes Liza Emmanuel—who entertained and enthralled the audience. The celebration concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks from Sports Captain, Sanjitha Selvakumar, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and supporters.
The 29th Annual Sports Day at Indian School Sohar was indeed a magnificent occasion filled with joy, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship, creating unforgettable memories for both participants and spectators alike.
