A webinar on “The Role of General Knowledge in Foundational & Preparatory Stage Education” was conducted by Dr. Kalpana Joshi on Monday, 22nd September 2025 for all Foundational and Preparatory stage teachers. The session highlighted the essential role of GK in education and its impact on shaping young learners.
Dr. Joshi emphasized that General Knowledge plays a vital role in:
* Creating awareness and curiosity among children.
* Helping students connect with other core subjects.
* Building connections with everyday affairs.
* Enriching learning through music, art forms, dance forms, and folk art.
* Engaging students in activities such as “Spot the Connection between the Words.”
* Preparing children for the future to choose their careers wisely.
* Navigating knowledge and sparking inquiry.
* Role of teachers in navigating knowledge and sparking inquiry in students.
Attending the GK workshop reminded us that as teachers, we must go beyond textbooks, stay updated, and inspire curiosity in our students. The workshop reinforced the idea that GK not only enriches classroom learning but also develops critical thinking and lifelong learning habits.
