“To read a newspaper is to read the world itself.”

Words and headlines came alive in the library this week as students’ voices filled the air during the Newspaper Reading Competition — a thoughtful initiative by Indian School Sohar to rekindle the joy of reading among Class VIII students.

The students were assessed on the basis of pronunciation, articulation, expression, emphasis, style, and delivery. All the participants read enthusiastically and confidently. The competition was judges fairly by the amazing judges, Ms. Revathi and Ms. Heena Ahmed.

The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, an avid reader herself, emphasized the importance of reading newspapers daily. She spoke about its many advantages, the qualities of a good newspaper, and the contrast between physical and digital editions in today’s evolving media world. She also introduced students to journalism as a career, shedding light on the diverse roles within the field — from reporters and editors to camera operators and photographers.

The Assistant Vice Principal, Ms. Indira Sukumaran awarded merit certificates to the winners and congratulated and appreciated all the participants for their commendable performances.

The event witnessed the outstanding performances of the following winners:

First Position: Rozanne Jacob (VIII D)

Second Position: Vidit Gridhar (VIII D)
