A CANVAS OF CULTURE AND ACHIEVEMENT

Indian School Sohar celebrated its Annual Day and Sheikh Kanaksi Khimji Academic Proficiency Award Distribution Ceremony on 25 November 2025 with grandeur, grace, and a spectacular display of student talent. The evening brought together the joy of learning, the spirit of culture, and the pride of achievement, making it a memorable occasion for the entire school community.

The cultural performances began with the Royal Anthem of Oman and the National Anthem of India followed by a semi-classical and Kathak welcome dance, ‘Nritya Swagatam’, where graceful movements created an aura of warmth and festivity. The atmosphere grew even more vibrant with the delightful presentation ‘Flower Power’, in which the youngest learners filled the stage with colours, butterflies, and blooming flowers. This was followed by the lively act ‘Welcome to the Circus’, featuring energetic little clowns, playful animals, and cheerful ringmasters who brought laughter and excitement to the audience.

The Annual Report, presented by the Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma, highlighted the school’s achievements, ongoing initiatives, and its vision for the future. Her address reflected the school’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development. Soon after, ‘Together in Melody’ brought forth a rich musical blend of folk songs in thirteen Indian languages, celebrating India's linguistic diversity and cultural pride. This seamless presentation was followed by the contemporary performance ‘Ray of Hope’, which portrayed a journey from darkness to light, reminding the audience of the power of resilience and hope.

One of the most captivating performances of the evening was the Gedi dance of Chhattisgarh, ‘Up on the Stilts’. The dancers impressed the audience with their agility and balance, performing traditional steps while elevated high above the ground. The cultural spirit continued with the Haryanvi folk presentation, ‘Dharti Ke Raag Haryana Ke Sang’, which showcased lively rhythms, energetic footwork, and the rustic charm of Haryana’s countryside.

The programme also featured the presentation of Academic Proficiency Awards to students of Classes VI to XII, recognising those who secured top positions in Oman, within the school, and across various subjects in the Class X and XII board examinations. Additionally, the Long and Meritorious Service Awards were conferred upon staff members who have devoted ten or more years to Indian School Sohar. This segment celebrated the outstanding achievements of students and the unwavering dedication of staff, filling the auditorium with pride and admiration as each achiever was honoured for their hard work, commitment, and contributions to the school’s success.

As the evening progressed, the stage lit up once again with ‘Dandiya Beats’, a colourful and rhythmic performance capturing the festive spirit of Gujarat. The musical journey then shifted to the soothing performance ‘Rhythm of the Blue’, where dancers beautifully depicted clouds, rain, and peacocks to the soul-stirring melody Karukare Karmukil. The choreography transported the audience into a serene world inspired by nature.

A moment of gratitude followed, acknowledging the support of the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, guests from the Ministry of Education, members of the School Managing Committee, visiting principals, parents, teachers, staff, and everyone who contributed to the success of the event. Their encouragement and cooperation continue to remain a driving force behind every school endeavour.

The grand finale, ‘Shadows that Sing the Nation’, paid tribute to 150 years of Vande Mataram through a powerful shadow dance combined with live vocals. The performance honoured India’s freedom struggle and evoked deep feelings of unity, pride, and patriotism. The audience responded with heartfelt applause, marking the culmination of an evening filled with joy, creativity, and celebration.
