Indian School Sohar celebrated its 30th Annual Sports Day at the Sohar Sports Stadium on 11 December 2025 with great enthusiasm, excitement, and festive spirit. The Chief Guest, Mr. Khalifa bin Saif bin Rashid Al-Issai, Advisor, Ministry of Culture Sports and Youth, was warmly escorted by the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, along with the President of the School Managing Committee, Mr. Abraham George and the other members. The welcome ceremony was beautifully led by a traditional Gedi dance on stilts, adding colour and vibrancy to the occasion.
The programme commenced with the Royal Anthem of Oman, followed by the National Anthem of India. The Sports day mascots-Tiger and Oryx-greeted the Chief Guest and presented a bouquet. The Chief Guest received salute during the March Past, led by the School Captain Amrutha Varshini and Aswath Raghavan, followed by the contingent of the Council Members and the marching students of Green, Red, Blue, and Yellow Houses.
The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the rich sporting journey of the school throughout the year. She spoke about the various intramural and extramural competitions, including inter-house events, CBSE Oman Cluster tournaments, National Championships, and Bond of Friendship matches, which helped in instilling teamwork, discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship among students. The Chief Guest then formally declared the Annual Sports Day open. Balloons and pigeons were released, symbolizing peace, unity, and harmony.
The events began with a delightful Ball drill by Class I, which was highly appreciated by the audience. This was followed by fun-filled races such as the Joker Race, Chain Race, Cone and Ball Balancing Race, spreading joy and laughter. The Flower drill by Class II students was colourful and graceful, earning loud applause. Students of Classes III–V participated enthusiastically in exciting events like the Flag Relay, Four-Legged Race, Scooter Race, and Hula Hoop Race. The energetic Foam drill performed by students of Classes III–V showcased confidence and coordination.
The 100-metre races for boys and girls in Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 categories were thrilling, with athletes displaying speed, determination, and competitive spirit. The audience was mesmerized by the Satin drill and Clap drill performed by students of Classes VI–VIII, reflecting excellent synchronization, discipline, and teamwork. One of the highlights of the day was the 4 × 100 m relay races for Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 boys and girls, which were electrifying and kept the spectators cheering enthusiastically. The Parents’ Races added special excitement to the event, as the students cheered wholeheartedly while their parents participated with great enthusiasm.
For their vibrant spirit and loud encouragement, Blue House won the Best Cheering House Trophy. In the March Past competition, Green House was declared the winner, while Yellow House emerged as the runner-up. Based on overall performance across all events, Blue House was declared the Overall Champion, while Yellow House secured the Runner-up position.
During the prize distribution ceremony, winners of various events were awarded medals. Gold medal winners of the CBSE Oman Cluster were specially honoured with Gold Coins. Blessy Vinod Jeeba and Yashaswini Jain were accorded special recognition with a Gold Coin, Medal, and Trophy for winning the Bronze Medal at the CBSE National Cricket Girls Tournament, making the school immensely proud. The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks proposed by Neha Antala, Sports Captain (Girls), followed by the formal declaration of the meet closed by the Chief Guest.
The 30th Annual Sports Day was a grand success, celebrating athletic excellence, teamwork, and the true spirit of sportsmanship. The well-planned events, enthusiastic participation of students and parents, and the inspiring presence of dignitaries made the day memorable. The celebration reaffirmed the commitment of the school to holistic development and inspired everyone to strive for excellence in all walks of life.
