AISSA, the Alumni Association of the Indian School hosted an engaging session titled “Alumni Speaks”. This event featured distinguished alumni, Kalyani Bokil and Sushantika S Ashok, who shared their experiences and insights on managing academic and career-related challenges. The session aimed at providing current students within the Commerce Stream with practical advice as they navigate their educational paths and future career choices.

The event commenced with an insightful introduction by Mrs. Smitha Mishra, the coordinator of AISSA and HOD Commerce, who set the tone for the session by highlighting the importance of alumni engagement and the valuable lessons they can impart to current students. She emphasized that the transition from school to higher studies and professional life can be daunting, and insights from successful alumni can provide much-needed guidance.

Kalyani Bokil began the session by offering invaluable career counselling focused on choices after Grade XII. Emphasizing the importance of making informed decisions regarding career paths after higher secondary education, she encouraged students to evaluate their interests and strengths before committing to a stream of study. The session also delved into the preparations required for pursuing a Chartered Accountancy course, highlighting the critical steps involved in the journey.

The significance of balancing CA preparation with graduation studies was strongly stressed, along with effective time-management strategies to handle both successfully. The various stages involved in becoming a Chartered Accountant were clearly outlined by her, providing aspiring students with a well-defined roadmap. In addition, personal experiences of managing CA studies alongside graduation were shared, along with practical tips on handling workload, seeking guidance when needed, and staying motivated throughout the process.

Sushantika captivated the audience with her journey of balancing a career in cricket alongside her academic obligations. She too discussed the challenges of managing rigorous training schedules while maintaining her academic performance. She shared strategies that helped her excel in both fields. She acknowledged the crucial role played by teachers, mentors, and family in supporting her dual pursuits, emphasizing the importance of having a strong support network that encourages students to achieve their goals.

Both alumni expressed profound gratitude towards their teachers for the guidance and support received during their time at Indian School. They not only inspired the students but also provided actionable insights into managing careers while pursuing academic excellence. The session finally had an interactive Q&A Session, allowing students to engage directly with the speakers and gain further insights into their queries.

The session concluded with warm appreciation from the Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma, who highlighted the significance of having successful alumni come back to inspire current students. The Principal applauded Kalyani and Sushantika for their dedication and for sharing their real-world experiences, which can motivate students to strive for excellence in their academic and personal lives.

The Commerce Stream students appreciated the practical advice shared by Kalyani and Sushantika, indicating that the session was beneficial in helping them understand the importance of time management, planning for their careers, balancing multiple commitments and most importantly, the pathway to pursue CA.
