The Physical Education Department of Indian School Sohar organized a special Yoga Session on 10 June 2026 on the occasion of the International Yoga Day. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Principal, Vice Principal, Assistant Vice Principal, Heads of Departments, faculty members, admin staff and students.

The theme for International Yoga Day 2026, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," emphasizes the vital role of yoga in promoting physical vitality, mental well-being, and a balanced lifestyle throughout all stages of life. In keeping with this theme, the school organized a series of yoga activities aimed at fostering health, mindfulness, and overall wellness among students and staff.

As part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum, students practice various yoga asanas and meditation techniques regularly. These sessions help students develop physical fitness, concentration, flexibility, and inner peace while encouraging a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

The programme commenced with a 12-Count Exercise performed by Ms. Vaishnavi, which served as a warm-up activity. This was followed by Standing Asanas, demonstrated  by Mr. Sachin Ali, during which participants performed a series of postures aimed at improving flexibility, balance, strength, and concentration. The session then progressed to Sitting Asanas, conducted by Mr. Sanjeev Kumar. The session concluded  with a divine and peaceful Meditation Session led by Mr. Niyas Ali, enabling everyone to experience calmness, relaxation, and rejuvenation.

One of the most enjoyable segments of the programme was the Laughter Yoga Session, which filled the hall with positivity, joy, and enthusiasm. Adding to the cheerful atmosphere, Mr. Nikhil and Ms. Dipti Baliga, dressed as Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, entertained the participants and helped create a relaxed and happy environment for everyone.

The event proved to be a refreshing and enriching experience for all participants, successfully reinforcing the significance of yoga as a means of achieving physical, mental, and emotional well-being and highlighted its importance in supporting healthy ageing and lifelong wellness.

The Principal appreciated the efforts of the entire Physical Education Department, led by Mr. Kamal Gurung, Head of the Department, for the successful organization of the programme. The Principal also encouraged everyone to make yoga a regular part of their daily routine and embrace its benefits for overall health, fitness, and well-being.
