Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav was celebrated at Indian School Sohar from 4th December to 11th December 2025, honouring the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati. The theme of the year, ‘Many Languages, One Emotion” was beautifully expressed through various activities that captured the unity, shared identity and collective cultural spirit that connect India’s diverse linguistic traditions.
Language trees depicting various languages of India were created, giving an opportunity to students, teachers and parents for identifying their own language and acknowledging the diversity of languages in India. A language heritage wall was also designed to provide space for a multi-linguistic display of alphabets and numeracy.
Students recorded short videos in different regional languages, reciting poems and singing songs from their region. Teachers, led by Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, had an interactive poetry session where they recited verses in different languages like Odia, Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, Marathi, Nepali and Hindi, inspiring students also to discover the unity in languages.
Students wrote proverbs in different Indian languages that share similar meanings. They also explained some proverbs in their languages as well as translated them for others to understand and taught each other greetings in their native languages, encouraging peer learning. Stories were presented as a linguistic chain, beginning in one language and continuing it in different Bharatiya Bhashas. The props, voice modulation, expressions and gestures helped students to understand new languages and also to discover similar expressions across the linguistic spectrum.
Many learners helped others to learn new languages like Arabic through interactive games and also conducted discussions and peer-led sessions on regional culture to explore various Indian languages. On the final day of Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav, students put up short performances dedicated to Shri Subramania Bharathiyar’s life, depicting unity and courage. The expressive recitals in Tamil served a befitting tribute to the great personality on his birth anniversary, whose life and lessons are a great source of inspiration to the youth of today. This celebration of India's linguistic diversity enhanced appreciation India’s multilingual heritage and strengthened national unity through cultural understanding.
