The Physical Education Department of Indian School Sohar organized a special function on 27th August to mark the National Sports Day of India to commemorate the Birth Day of Major Dhyan Chand Singh, one of the most respected legendary figures in Indian and world hockey, who won gold medals for India in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936. Known as " The Wizard " for his superb ball control. He played his final international game in 1948 having scored more than 400 goals in his career.
Together with this, the birthday of Mother Teresa, the nobel peace prize winner, was also celebrated.
There was a special Assembly where the Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma paid floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand and addressed the students and directed them to take inspiration from the great sportsman and play a pivotal role in taking our country to the zenith of glory in the arena of sports.
She encouraged the students to be commited to the service of the society like mother Teresa.
Quiz related to Major Dhyan Chand and his career was organized during the assembly and winners were awarded. On the whole, the celebrations of the day generated a spirit of unity, integrity and enthusiasm – a driving force in the pursuit of success.
