NAVIGATING ESCALATION TO REGULATION

03-08-2026

A Teacher orientation session on "Navigating Escalation to Regulation: Creating Calm and Connected Classrooms" was conducted for teachers of Classes VI – XII on 27 July 2026 by Mrs. Anu Sonia Vincent, School Counsellor.

The session focused on understanding the science behind behavioural escalation, recognising behaviour as a form of communication, and exploring de-escalation strategies for the classroom. Teachers were introduced to concepts such as perceived threats, psychological safety, the functions of behaviour, and effective responses that promote regulation rather than confrontation. The session highlighted the importance of understanding the underlying needs behind challenging behaviours and shifting from a reaction-based approach to a more empathetic and supportive response.

Teachers were encouraged to understand behaviour through a psychological lens, strengthening teacher–student relationships and enabling them to respond to diverse classroom situations with greater awareness, consistency, and compassion while fostering an inclusive and emotionally safe learning environment.
