“There is no friend as loyal as a book.”
These words by Ernest Hemingway echoed in the school premises more loudly than ever as the ISS Library celebrated World Book Day for the second consecutive year, which is globally observed as World Book and Copyright Day. It was taken as an opportunity to revive the dying habit of reading among the younger generation.
A Special Assembly was organized for the same. The assembly started off with a beautiful quote, followed by a thought provoking speech on the importance of reading and how in today’s world people are refraining from reading. A beautiful poem by Safdar Hashmi, “Kitaben kuch Kahana Chahti Hain” was then rendered by the students.
DEAR Time (Drop Everything and Read) was observed, wherein students and teachers were allotted 10-15 minutes for pleasure reading. Various other activities were conducted in the libraries like story telling with the use of puppets, creating book marks, poster making etc.
Principal Mrs.Sanchita Verma, who is an ardent reader herself, motivated the students and staff to incorporate reading in their day to day life. She emphasized that there is no substitute for books and no other means than reading to quench the thirst for knowledge.
The Joy of Reading, experienced by one and all in the school, came as a refreshing change in the fast paced world of technology.
