Five girl cricketers from Indian School Sohar participated and emerged winner in the Women’s T-20 Knockout Tournament held from 18th April to 30th April 2017. In the Final held at the Al Amerat Turf 2 ground on the 30th of April 2017, Sohar Women’s team scored 127/3 in 20 overs against Indian School Al Ghubra who could manage only 114/5 in 20 overs.
The young cricketers were applauded and appreciated for their amazing all-round performance. Their team spirit and dedication was noteworthy. Women’s Cricket Sohar defeated Indian Social Club in the first round and the highly experienced team of ISWK in the semifinal. In the prize distribution that followed, Oman Cricket Board of directors along with Ex-Indian Captain Mohammed Azharuddin, distributed the awards to the winning team. Oman Cricket Lady Co-ordinator Vaishali Jesrani said, “Kudos to Women Cricket- Sohar for setting a platform for women’s sport. It shows a very positive start from Sohar region; the team efforts and commitment will bring better results in the coming years. The Women’s team from Sohar has talented and skilled players”.
Women’s Cricket team Sohar was coached by Mr. Kamal Prasad Gurung, HOD Physical Education and level One Coach, under whose guidance the team came out victorious overshadowing the Muscat players. The Young cricketers from ISS are Sakshi Shetty class VII C, Sanusha class IX A, Lakshmi Suresh class X A, Anshita Tiwari class VI F and Snehal Nair class VIII A. In a special assembly Sanchita Verma, Principal Indian School Sohar congratulated Oman Cricket Committee Sohar, team coach and the players for the great achievement. She praised their effort and dedication.
