Green Gyan Eco Club of ISS joined hands with United Nation’s World Environment Day Celebrations for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment, the immediate need of the time. An array of activities was organized to sensitize the young students on the irreparable and catastrophic consequences of destroying the environment. The enthusiastic response from the students bears testimony to their serious outlook towards the issue. The theme for the current year “Wealth from the Waste” endorsed recycling of used goods. The waste Management drive enlightened the students and inspired them to recycle and reuse. As a result, the Eco Club members provided boxes prepared with waste materials to place reusable paper and paper meant for recycling separately. They displayed various articles like paper stand and flower vase made of waste materials showcasing their creativity.
In the Special Assembly, students spoke about the disasters of polluting the environment, suggested corrective measures and enthused for a ‘go green effort’ to prevent the world that we inherited from being senselessly
vandalized. The ballet “Tree’s Spirit” depicted the imminent danger in felling trees and encouraged everyone to protect, preserve and promote Mother Earth. The melodious and touching group song created love towards mother earth and inspired everyone to take care of her. Mr. Mohd. Illyas, through his power point presentation on Upcycling, created cognizance about the environment. He reiterated the need to change the attitude towards it by quoting Wayne Dyer: “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”.
The Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma awarded the Eco Club members for their valuable contribution and appreciated the eco initiative of the staff and the students. She urged the students to take the responsibility of saving the environment with an understanding that their actions would contribute towards a clean and safe world and would pass the message on to the posterity. She averred the importance of protecting “our Earth: our habitat and home”. Else, we have to face the apocalypse that stares us, in the not so distant future.
