A Training programme on hydroponics was organized by Indian School Muscat under the Aegis of the BOD Indian Schools in Oman on 8th September, 2018. A team of 35 teachers from various schools across Oman attended the programme. Science teachers-Ms Saramma Kurian, Ms Dilna Anish and Mr Irfan Ahmad attended the workshop. It aimed at instilling modern scientific flare amongst students.
The Chief guest Dr Ajay Kumar Pillai, Principals, Vice-Principals and delegates from various schools were warmly welcomed. Dr Ajay Kumar Pillai, emphasized the academic initiative undertaken to bring at pace all the Indian Schools at the same platform and that one outcome of brainstorming was hydroponics, STEM and Kids Sports. He also gave emphasis to concept teaching to bring children to be in power with nature and to give the students a chance to learn beyond the classroom walls.
Ms Soumya Harikrishnan, Department of Biology elaborated on various methods and techniques of hydroponics through a power point presentation Hydroponics as an integral part of Curriculum mapping and its relation with other subjects was also emphasized. Followed by the field visit which gave teachers a firsthand experience with hydroponics, which was both informative and useful.
Presentation on aquaponics by technicians from Al Arfan, Oman's largest aquaponic farm was innovative.
The Principal of ISM Dr Rajeev Kumar Chauhan and Dr Alex Academics Director, BOD addressed the gathering with an enlightening speech and with a promising note on the launching of this project on October 2nd by all Indian Schools in Oman.
The experience was truly enlightening and looking forward to the launching.
