“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

In order to inculcate an idea on waste reduction, reuse and recycling, YCIS club of Indian School Sohar initiated Recycle drive. There are important environmental and economic benefits connected with recycling. We tried to instill a sense of environmental awareness amongst our young communitarians.

Teachers and students gathered to create positive methods for reusing plastic bottles. Our communitarians used their creativity for this project. They collected and recycled the plastic bottles into beautiful chalk holders and pin holders. These holders were gifted to all classes to be reused. This event offered a relatively inexpensive method to reduce and recycle plastic. Our communitarians learnt about protecting the environment and possibly recycling the same, by using waste-reduction techniques to some useful reuse products.

Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma and Vice Principal, Dr. Vinu Kumar  appreciated the initiative taken up by YCIS members and congratulated the coordinator Ms. Indira S and teachers in-charge Ms. Deepa, Ms. Shahnaz, Ms. Selvi and Ms. Anam for this service-based drive, which not only created environmental awareness but also helped them to learn the creative art of transforming waste product into a useful product. The coordinator expressed gratitude for the complete support and guidance extended by the school. While recycling bins offer a common approach to plastic recycling, our club expanded the reduction practise by reusing the amount of plastic.
