To marks the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the Hockey Wizard of India,the National Sports Day is celebrated on 29th August every year in India. This year, on the occasion of the Sports Day, The Honourable Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi launched “FIT INDIA MOVEMENT” at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
The live streaming of the launch was witnessed by the students of VI-VIII at Indian School Sohar from 8.30 am onwards. The function started with an enlightening presentation about the traditional games and sports of India and this presentation was an endeavour to create an awareness among the young generation about our traditional games and dances which enhances the stamina, agility and fitness. The Honourable Prime Minister in his address lauded the achievements of Major Dhyan Chand and urged all the Indians to take an initiative to ensure fitness. He stated that if citizens of the country are fit, the country will also be fit and progressive. The tagline for the event was “FIT HAI TAU HIT HAI”. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma in her brief address highlighted about the relevance of Sports Day and fitness in our lives.
