Our world is rich and diverse within about 7,000 living languages. These languages are instruments for communication, engagement in lifelong learning and participation in society and the world of work. They are also closely linked with distinctive identities, cultures, world-wide views and knowledge system. Embracing linguistic diversity in education and literacy development is therefore a key part of developing inclusive societies that respect diversity and difference; upholding human dignity.”

International Literacy Day 2019 is an opportunity to express solidarity with the celebrations of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages & the 25th anniversary of the World Conference on Special Needs Education, at which the Salamanca Statement on Inclusive Education was adopted. Despite progress made, literacy challenges persist, distributed unevenly across countries and populations. So this year UNESCO will focus on “Literacy & Multilingualism” to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
To create awareness among the students related to Literacy programmes, a special assembly was conducted by class VI-D on 09 September 2019 in Indian School Sohar. The assembly started with a prayer song which was followed by the thought for the day, news headlines, speech and quiz. The Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma addressed the assembly and rewarded the certificates and the medals to the winners of various competitions. The assembly concluded with the National Anthem.
