17-10-2019

Peace is the most powerful weapon of mankind. It takes more courage to take a blow than to give one.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi is not just a name, but the spirit of profound wisdom and captivating humility.   To commemorate the birth anniversary of the ‘Father of the Nation’, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, 2nd of October is celebrated every year in the country as Gandhi Jayanti. This day is declared as the International Day of Non-Violence by the UN.

To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a special assembly was organized by the students of primary section in Indian School Sohar. The assembly started by offering a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, by the Principal, Vice Principal and the Section Supervisor.  An inspiring speech on Gandhiji motivated the young audience. Gandhiji was a strong promoter of cleanliness. He believed that cleanliness is next to Godliness. This could be seen in a theme based dance performance depicting ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyan’, an initiative taken by Gandhiji to promote cleanliness. Gandhian values and philosophies were very well showcased in the dance performance and also, his teachings were very well exhibited by the students of class IV   carrying placards. The major attraction of the assembly was a stereotypical representation of Gandhiji and other prominent freedom fighters who played a very important role in the freedom struggle of our country. The act also highlighted the ‘Three Wise Monkeys’ of Gandhiji representing the principle “see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil”. This presentation served as a tribute to Gandhiji  by the students of class III.

The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma addressed the gathering and highlighted the relevance of International Day of Non Violence. She appreciated the efforts of the organizers of the assembly. The assembly concluded with the prize distribution ceremony in which winners of various competitions such as Drawing and Colouring, Mental Maths, Hindi Story Telling and English Handwriting were rewarded with certificates. Ms. Saima Ahmad was the co-ordinator of the assembly.
