150th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS OF MAHATMA GANDHI BY CLASSES VI - VIII

Mahatma Gandhiji- The father of our Nation- with his philosophy of simple living and high thinking serves as an inspiration for others to follow the path of truth and non-violence. The UN General Assembly declared 2nd October as the International Day of Non- Violence. To commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian School Sohar organized a special assembly for Class VI-VIII on 2nd October-2019.

The assembly was presented by the students of class 7th C. The day began by paying homage to Gandhiji, followed by prayer and an inspirational thought of the day. Badges depicting the sesquicentennial year of Gandhi Jayanti was presented to the Principal, Vice- Principal, Supervisor and teachers present on the occasion.

An inspirational speech was given by Mrs. Tahseen Farooq regarding the life & principles of Mahatma Gandhi. The patriotic song (De di hame azadi) was sung by the students with full enthusiasm. A Presentation highlighting the relevance of Gandhiji’s thoughts in today’s context was given by John Emmanuel of 8th A. The enthralling group dance performance reminded the audience about the freedom struggle.

Some facts and questions related to the life of Gandhiji was asked to the audience during Quiz Time, conducted by quizmaster Sankalp. The Principal highlighted the Gandhian thoughts, principles, values and ideals in her message and inspired the students to follow those great values in their life. The assembly concluded with the message of the need for patriotism and the need to imbibe the morals put forward by Mahatma Gandhi. Teachers present on the occasion wearing Handloom and Khadi upheld the Swadeshi principle put forth by Gandhi.
