“He who wants to persuade should put his trust not in the right argument, but in the right word. The power of sound has always been greater than the power of sense.”
– Joseph Conrad
In order to equip young students with the skills of thinking clearly, speaking persuasively and listening to the opinions of others critically and constructively, an English Elocution competition was organised for the students of class V in Indian School Sohar on 30th October 2019.
The aim of this competition was to give students a good opportunity to combat with the stage fear and to promote English speaking skills. The preliminary round was held on 17th October 2019. Three students were selected from each section of Class V. The participants showed their confidence, expression and enthusiasm while presenting their speeches. It was heartwarming to see almost all the participants speaking beautifully and eloquently. They were judged on the basis of three criteria- Pronunciation and Fluency, Expression and Voice Modulation and Content.
The young gifted orators had won the hearts of the judges, who were overwhelmed by their oratory skills. At the end of the competition the judges were invited to speak a few words. The honourable judges really appreciated and applauded the students. The presence of Mrs. Divya Johari, [HOD English Department] encouraged the students as she appreciated the efforts of young students. The confidence, expression and potential of the young ones made the event truly memorable. The teacher in charge for the competition was Mrs. Santy Manesh. The Winners of the English Elocution Competition are:
First Position - Anushree Polai - V C
