35th ANNUAL DAY AT INDIAN SCHOOL SOHAR

Indian School Sohar celebrated its 35th   Annual Day & Academic Proficiency Prize Distribution (VI-XII), a pageant of culture, art, creativity and talent, in a portentous manner on 21st November, 2019.  Ms. Radiya Hassan Ali Al Luatia, Senior Regional Manager, Bank Muscat, North and South Al Batina Region, Dhaira and Al Buraimi Region,Sultanate of Oman graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Mr. Said Al Risi was the other special invitee from the Ministry of Education. The Presence of Mr. Abraham George, President, School Managing Committee, Mr. Haridas Jivraj Java, Vice-President, SMC, Mr. Rajendra B Mehta, Treasurer, SMC, and Mr. Ajay Damani, Joint treasurer, SMC enthused the staff and students. Mr. Abraham George, the President, SMC extended an endearing welcome to all the dignitaries and the audience. The Principal, Mrs. Sanchita Verma, in her Annual Report traced the purposeful and steady strides and momentous progress made during the last year. She highlighted the mile stones achieved during the last academic session and the progress the school is making in all fields by leaps and bounds and commented about the concentrated and persistent endeavours to achieve higher goals in co-curricular and co scholastic areas.

The skills and talent of the young students were being showcased with aplomb in the exuberant atmosphere. It commenced with a scintillating ‘Swagatham Dance.’ The Rangilo Rajasthan fused the most appreciated dance forms of Rajasthan. The Shadow Dance: Don’t Cut Trees, Don’t Cut Life attracted the attention towards the conservation of nature by echoing the cry of the trees.  The zealous Patriotic Dance, Ae Mere Vatan invigorated feelings of pure devotion, loyalty and respect for the nation. The school choir drew the strings of the spectators’ hearts with their soothing voice presenting a fusion of four different genres, based on the Raga Yaman bringing together distinctly different compositions of pure Bandish, a movie song, a non-movie song and a sufi Qawwali.  The English Skit “Art of Good Communication”, an adaptation from ‘PYGMALION’ the wonderful play by the great English Dramatist George Bernard Shaw projected that good pronunciation is not the birth right of the elite only, but an art that can be achieved by anyone through practice and determined hard work. The “Garba: Khusboo Gujarat Ki” reflected the ecstatic movements of traditional dance forms of Gujarat. The Garba dancers resplendent in their vibrantly coloured costumes, complete with umbrellas, dandiya sticks and dhol enthralled the audience. The kathak performance, praising the home coming of a victorious warrior crated a jubilant atmosphere through the firework of rapid moving steps. The programme rose to a final crescendo with the finale of the show, the Semi Classical Dance, Save Blue to Stay Green giving a strong plea to preserve the aquatic ecosystem through the dancers portraying the synchronised movements of a school of fish under water. There was festive atmosphere all around and parents were visibly excited to watch their children’s performance.

The Annual Prize Distribution was a moment of pride and honour for all the winners and achievers of the school. The meritorious students of Std. VI to XII were awarded during the ceremony. The teachers who completed 10 years of service with the institution and the teachers who got awards in various fields were also felicitated. The Vice-Principal, Dr. Vinu Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.

 The Chief Guest and all the dignitaries appreciated the synchronisation and the hard work put in by the students and teachers. The President, SMC, Mr. Abraham George and other Members profusely appreciated the relentless efforts of the ISS team. The exhilarating show was an unforgettable experience and left a lasting impression on the minds of everyone present.
