“Yoga is the journey of the self, to the self, through the self”
Yoga is an ancient Physical, mental and spiritual practice that has its roots in India. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness around the world, regarding the many benefits of practicing the art. The day is being celebrated since 21 June 2015. Due to the Covid-19 crisis; this year’s theme for the International Yoga Day is “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family.”
The purpose of International Yoga Day is to promote yoga and endeavor towards making it a part and parcel of everyone's daily routine. The Health & Wellness Club and Physical Education Department of Indian School Sohar celebrated the 6th International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2020 in a virtual platform.
The school recognizes the need to bring about a holistic approach to health and well-being among the students and teachers. Indian School Sohar organized various sessions of Yoga in virtual platform. All the faculty members and students participated enthusiastically in the program. The Program started with a video, which showed various yoga postures, asanas and explained its benefits. . The event highlighted the intrinsic link between yoga and sustainability and the idea is to encourage students on how to stay active and healthy amidst this lockdown.
Mrs. Sanchita Verma, the Principal, appreciated the virtual yoga session. The participants understood the importance of yoga as a symbol of universal aspiration for health and well-being rejuvenating the mental and physical energies thus marking the success of the program.
