JOY OF READING WEEK (III - V)

“There is no friend as loyal as a book”, said American author Ernest Hemingway. Books fire up your imagination, provide solace and open up your world. The importance of a reading habit is linked to professional success, as it opens up the mind to new experiences and provides new avenues of knowledge.

A virtual ‘Joy of Reading’ week was observed in the Indian School Sohar from 25th April to 29th April. The main objective of conducting this event was to encourage reading habits among young students. All the students from section III – V actively participated in the event. Ms. Arti Bokil conducted the programme with full zeal and enthusiasm. The programme started with a message from the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma. She motivated young children to develop reading skills. She shared some tips for integrating technology with reading by introducing students to the concept of BookTube, a book-specific YouTube community and its popularity. Also, she encouraged the students to make videos on Bookshelf tours, read alongs, TBR videos and Wrap- up videos and post them. The Section Supervisor, Ms. Alka Singh also gave a valuable message on the importance of effective reading. Supervisor advised students to adopt active reading in order to be an effective reader. The teacher in charge, Ms. Arti Bokil shared a presentation through which she informed the students about the digitalization of the ISS library. She explained the library automation process and how it reduces the drudgery of repeated manual efforts in library routine. The subject teachers also joined the event and expressed their views on the importance of reading. They encouraged students to read more books. The students were told to drop everything and read – DEAR Time... They showed deep interest when they were reading.

Eventually, the ‘Joy of Reading’ week was a big success. The students realized their reading journey was not limited to JOR week but promised to continue it.
