Indian School Sohar’s first phase of new building adjoining the existing building was inaugurated by unveiling the ceremonial plaque, on June 5 by H E Sheikh Hilal bin Ali bin Saud al Habsi, Wali of Sohar in the presence of H E J S Mukul, Ambassador of India to Oman in a glittering ceremony, graced by distinguished guests.
The guest included director general, Sohar Municipality; the patriarch of the Indian diaspora in Oman, Sheikh Kanakshi Khimji, the members of Hindu Mahajan Association; Banyan Merchant Community from Muscat and Sohar; officials from the Ministry of Education; members of Board of Directors, Indian Schools, members of School Managing Committee of Indian School Wadi Kabir and Sohar.
The distinguished guests were given a guided tour of the new building. The new premise has 22 spacious classrooms, fully equipped physics, chemistry, biology and computer labs, staffrooms besides other modern amenities. All the classrooms were equipped with interactive, multimedia smartboards with latest content as per CBSE curriculam. Guests were given a glimpse of use of smartboard technology in classroom for various subjects.
Principal Sanchita Verma, welcomed the august gathering and thanked all concerned for their support in the construction of the building. She said that educators are increasingly being aware of the interaction between physical spaces and learning environment. Modern facilities improve not only the school’s physical environment but also its learning culture.
The programme began with the national anthems of Oman and India followed by the Welcome song sung by the school choir. The honoured guests were given a floral welcome.
Abraham George, member, managing committee presented a report on the phenomenal progress made by the school in the recent years. He also presented a road map to further progress of the school.
H E Habsi congratulated the school managing committee and expressed hope that students will progress in the new atmosphere. H E Mukul, congratulated the school managing committee on the project’s successful completion. He hoped that students will progress unhindered in the new ambience.
