ANNUAL DAY AT INDIAN SCHOOL SOHAR

Indian School Sohar celebrated its Annual Day in a pompous manner with an accompaniment of colourful cultural programmes on the 8th of December, 2022. Shri Kiran Asher, Group Managing Director, Al Ansari Group of Companies, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Mr. Hamed Al Maamri, Manager, Bank Muscat, Main Branch, Sohar was the Guest of Honour. Other special invitees were Mr. Saeed Bin Mohammed Al-Raisi from MOE and Mr. Hasan Al Hamdani from Bank Muscat. The presence of Mr. Abraham George, President of SMC, Mr. Ajay Damani, Treasurer of SMC and Mr Lalit Asher, the Convenor of SMC, enthused the staff and students. Mr. Abraham George, the President of SMC extended an endearing welcome to all the dignitaries and the audience. The Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma, through the “Glimpses”, traced the purposeful and steady strides and momentous progress made during the last year. She highlighted the milestones achieved during the last academic session and the progress the school is making in all fields by leaps and bounds and commented about the concentrated and persistent endeavours to achieve higher goals in co-curricular and co-scholastic areas.

The array of cultural programmes not only brought out the essence of cultural diversity and rich heritage of our motherland but showcased a glimpse of classics too. It commenced with a scintillating “Welcome Dance” by the tiny tots. The “Flower Power” instilled the freshness, beauty, and comfort of nature. “It’s Majic: Jadoo Hai!” presented the magic of eco-friendly life, creating nostalgia among all. “Puppets Moppets” took us to the world of puppets exuberantly dancing to the tunes of diverse dance forms. “We Are the Champions” gave a flair of the World Cup and inspired the audience to strive forth to succeed through the Waving Flag Song. “Watan Ke Vaste” invigorated feelings of pure devotion, loyalty, and respect for the nation. The English Skit “The Merchant of Venice” projected the victory of good over evil and the conversion of the human soul through an act of mercy. “Rut-Rang-Rag-Sang” by the school choir drew the strings of the spectators’ hearts with their soothing voices and traversed them through the four seasons presenting a fusion of four different ragas. “The Dazzlers” performed with exuberance and reflected unmatched zeal and rhythm. While Runu Jhunu Baje Ghungura brought forth the ambience of Rangeela Rajasthan, “Step-up with Props” with the touching and charming performance, enthused all present to fly like butterflies in a world of dreams. The “Kushboo Gujarat Ki,” - the Garba dance reflected the ecstatic and energetic movements of traditional dance forms of Gujarat. The programme rose to a final crescendo with the grand finale of the show, the “Fusion Illusion.” It created a different ambience, an incomparable world of heritage, fantasy, and illusion.

The Annual Prize Distribution function was a moment of pride and honour for all the winners and achievers of the school. The meritorious students of Std. IX to XII were awarded during the ceremony. Also. the teaching and non-teaching staff who completed sincere and dedicated service for the past 10, 15, 20 and 30 years were honoured at the function. They included Ms. Paridhi, Ms. Reji Sabu, Ms. Sreesha Raghavan, Mr. Jaffar Sadiq, Ms. Subbulakshmi Balasubramaniam, Ms. Divya Johari (HOD English), Mr. Kamal Prasad Gurung (HOD, Physical Education), Mr, Johnny Kuriakose, Mr. Humaid Khamis Said Al Muqbali and Mr. Abdul Basit Ahmed Al Attar. Above all, the Principal, Ms Sanchita Verma was honoured on the successful completion of her exemplary service at the school and for receiving a number of awards and recognitions from CBSE and the Board of Directors, Oman. The Chief Guest, Shri Kiran Asher, was full of praise for the variety of dances, which highlighted Indian culture and heritage. The Vice-Principal, Mr. Yashvir Singh proposed a lyrical vote of thanks. The Chief Guest and all the dignitaries commended the arduous work and enthusiasm of the students and staff for putting up such a grand show. The President of the SMC, Mr. Abraham George and other Members of the SMC profusely appreciated the relentless efforts of the ISS team in its pursuit of excellence. The gaiety and enthusiasm in the whole show were almost infectious and attracted loud rounds of applause.
