ANNUAL SPORTS DAY 2023

Indian School Sohar conducted its 28th Annual Sports Day  on 1st February, 2023, at the Sohar Sports Stadium upholding this aspect of sporting events.

Mr. Khalifa Bin Mohammed Al Balushi, Assistant Director General Directorate for Culture, Sports & Youth Al Batinah North Governorate, Sohar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Ms. Fatima Rashid Al Fazari, Assistant Director, Youth Activities Directorate for Culture, Sports & Youth Al Batinah North Governorate, Sohar was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Abraham George, President, School Managing Committee, Mr. Ajay Damani, Treasurer, graced the occasion and motivated the students with their presence.

The most anticipated event of the year commenced with the Guard of Honour. The evergreen song ‘Dreamers’ and the warm welcome by the Principal, Ms. Sanchita Verma motivated all by suffusing the spirit of sportsmanship and energy. The annual sports report itemizing the various achievements was presented by her.

The audience were in for a visual treat as the energetic March Past led by the Council Members and House Captains gave a grand beginning to the event. The synchronized swing of arms and the sound of thudding feet were highly appreciated by the spectators. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour received the salute from the students during the imposing March Past. The Torch Relay was held aloft by the young lamps Shruthikaa, silver medalist in under 14 categories, 50-meter breaststroke at the CBSE Swimming Cluster Tournament, Vikram, silver medalist under 11 at the CBSE Swimming Cluster Tournament, Ankithaa Sriram, Captain of runners-up team at Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Senior Basketball Tournament and Sarisha Gupta, Captain of the winning team at the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Junior Basketball Tournament.

The Chief Guest declared the meet OPEN and Guest of Honour released balloons into the air soon after the solemn oath administered by the Sports Captain, Sidambarisvar Balamurugan upholding the dignity of the games and expressing the determination to keep the sportsman spirit alive.  The mascots of the 28th Annual Sports Meet, Oryx, the National Animal of Oman and Shera- Tiger, the National Animal of India enhanced the grandeur of the event.

The races like Basket Race, Penguin Race, Pool Noodle Race, Hurdle Race, Hula Hoop Race, Obstacle Race, Basketball Balancing Race, Getting Ready for Cricket Race and Flag Relay Race held for the students of Std. I to V created an exciting atmosphere.  The appealing aspects of the event were the entrancing field drills like the Stick Drill, Ball Drill, Bottle Drill and the Sports Theme Dance involving mass student participation. The energetic performance instilled the importance of sports and physical activities. These events were characterized by perfect synchronization and energetic movement. The 100-meter races and the mixed relays for under 14 and 19 boys and girls evoked such fervor that the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes.  The running race organized for the parents saw an impressive participation and kept their sporting side alive. 

The Sports Meet came to an end with the Prize Distribution. The winners of various sports events, and the winning Houses in March Past and Overall Champion Houses were awarded with medals, shields and trophies respectively. The Red House was adjudged the overall winner and the Green House emerged as runner up.  The shield for March Past was lifted by the Yellow House and the Red House secured second position. A lively commentary throughout the programme by Gowri Krishna, Adithyan Nair, Evangelin Chellapandi and Sarveshvar of Class XI kept the audience thoroughly entertained. The evening came to a befitting end with the Vote of Thanks by the Sports Captain, Ankithaa Sriram. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish.
