Stronger teachers and leaders make schools stronger. With this aim Indian School Sohar arranged a Professional Development Program for teachers on 29th March 2023 as teachers are the cornerstone of the education system and need to constantly update and upgrade new knowledge and teaching strategies through workshops for effective classroom delivery.
The resource person Ms. Annie Melinda, a coaching professional at the Crossroads International TCI Oman and TCI Education India Private Limited, who is also a corporate trainer, executive coach, OD specialist, career counsellor, and writer. The aim of the workshop was to place the learners at the centre stage, offering them a holistic approach towards the realization of career dreams and inner potential.
Principal Ms. Sanchita Verma gave an overview of the workshop, emphasizing the need to refresh and update the professional knowledge of the teachers to guide 21st-century learners and cater to their varied needs.
Ms. Divya Johari, Head of the English Department introduced the resource person and welcomed the gathering. Ms. Smitha Mishra, Head of the Commerce Department presented the vote of thanks.
Through various hands-on activities, the teachers were encouraged to realize the latent potential in every individual, waiting to be actualized, and focus on efforts towards aligning to the power of self and achieving sustained growth of every learner, ensuring equity and inclusion in the process.
The teachers were given suggestions to refine their interpersonal and communication skills to interact and build rapport with students. All the attributes of a confident teacher were discussed including personal grooming, handling Parent-Teacher meetings and special scenarios which commonly arise during teaching and dealing with issues like bullying etc.
Overall, it was enlightening, and the teachers felt empowered to take on the new session with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
