“The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence.” - Rabindranath Tagore
To commemorate the 164th birth anniversary of the literary luminary and the first Indian Nobel Laureate, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, the students of Indian School Sohar conducted a special morning assembly on Thursday, 15th May 2025. The event served as an earnest homage to the multifaceted genius whose legacy transcends poetry, prose, music, art, and education.
The assembly commenced on a solemn and reverent note with a soul-stirring prayer song, followed by a ceremonial floral tribute offered to Shri Rabindranath Tagore’s portrait. This tribute was led by Principal Ms. Sanchita Verma, Vice-Principal Mr. Yashvir Singh, Assistant Vice-Principal Ms. Indira Sukumaran, and Supervisor Dr. Alka Singh, each symbolising the school’s commitment to celebrating India’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
A musical highlight of the assembly was the rendition of the iconic Tagorean composition, “Aaye Tobe Shohochori”—a joyous invocation calling companions to unite in dance and celebration. The lyrical verses, interwoven with the rhythmic cadence of the lute and the soft whispers of nature—the moon, wind, and flowing stream—evoked the spirit of freedom, love, and the transcendent beauty that Tagore so profoundly championed.
Adding to the educational richness of the occasion, a captivating visual presentation spotlighted the life, works, and indelible contributions of Rabindranath Tagore. This segment offered the audience valuable insights into the genius who redefined Indian literature, music, and philosophy for generations to come.
In her address, Principal Ms. Sanchita Verma commended the students and facilitators for their commendable efforts. She eloquently underscored the importance of internalizing Tagore’s ideals, particularly his emphasis on holistic education, and cultural integration.
The assembly was coordinated by Ms. Manjula Kaushik and Ms. Maitrayi Mamtaj Chowdury.
The assembly culminated with the resonant rendition of the Indian National Anthem, bringing the event to a dignified close. More than a tribute, the celebration stood as a platform for enlightenment and introspection, nurturing in young minds an enduring appreciation for the towering legacy of Rabindranath Tagore, whose intellectual and artistic contributions continue to illuminate the world.
