GRATITUDE IS THE BEST
ATTITUDE
By Agnes Liza Emmanuel, IV C
"TOM!!! You are following me with a plate of food and your
sleeping bag NOW.” The very tone of Emily's voice made
Tom understand that his mom wasn't pleased with him at all.
Tom knew that he had messed up things at his
Grandparents' place. He openly voiced that he couldn't eat
dinner without his favorite roast turkey and was indifferent
towards his Grandpa who was eager to meet him on
Thanksgiving. Tom wasn't keen to mingle with his cousins
and instead was sitting aloof with his video games.
Tom followed his mom out of the house. After a while they
met a man who looked miserable and Tom handed him over
the plate of food as instructed. Tears welled up in the man’s
eyes and he gobbled up the food quickly.
Next, they saw an old woman, cold and shivering by the side
of the road. “Would you like to use this sleeping bag? Emily
asked eagerly. The woman was overwhelmed and heartily
thanked them. Tom was surprised beyond belief.
They returned home where all the folks were waiting to
welcome them. Tom had learnt a big lesson in life. The
things that we take for granted are the ones that we should
feel most grateful for. Gratitude is indeed the best attitude.
